Usually, we've been playing hearts on Fridays as part of our Critical Thinking Fridays. At first, students struggled a bit with rules; later, they struggled with strategy. However, they're all getting good at hearts these days, so the critical thinking element has declined just a bit. Never fear: I had a strategy to increase the intellectual rigor of Fridays: logic puzzles.

Using five short clues and a lot of critical thinking, students were able to solve their first puzzle. Naturally, I helped them a great deal since it was the first time working these puzzles for many of them. However, by the end of class, they were making good logical inferences and using the law of identity to fill in the missing pieces.
