B-Day students began class today by revisiting their SMART goals. Over the weekend, I reviewed their assignments and identified areas where some students could make improvements. Because this assignment counts as their first major grade, students who lost points were given the opportunity to correct their work and resubmit it. By doing so, they can earn back half of the points they originally lost. More importantly, the process gives students another chance to think carefully about what makes a goal specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely.

During the second half of class, we shifted our focus to a new topic: organization. We started by discussing why organization matters and took a look at our own bedrooms as an example of what can happen when things get a little out of control.

Throughout this short unit, students will explore how staying organized can make school and life a little easier. We will discuss strategies for keeping track of assignments and materials, managing time more effectively, reducing unnecessary stress, and avoiding the last-minute scramble that comes from not knowing where something is. Students will also have opportunities to develop practical organizational habits that they can continue using well beyond this unit.
