SMART Goal Planning

Tuesday 1 September 2026

This week we're focusing on our first SMART goal:

  • specific
  • measurable
  • achievable
  • relevant
  • time-bound

We spent the first day (yesterday for A-day; today for B-day) learning how SMART goals will look with academic-based goal setting, and then we looked at some very poor examples of SMART goals:

  • I will improve my writing skills by reading more books.
  • I will get better grades in math this semester.
  • I will raise my science grade from a C to an A in one week.
  • I will finish all my homework assignments… eventually.
  • I will do more studying to improve in English.

For each of them, students discussed what might be missing from the SMART acronym and then we shared out to make sure we were all at the same level of understanding.

We spent the last few minutes working on a chart that will help us write our own SMART goals later this week.
