Socratic Seminar

Wednesday 15 October 2025

Today we had a Socratic Seminar about our non-verbal language/body language presentation from earlier, looking at two questions:

  1. What could we have done to improve our presentations?
  2. What could Mr. Scott have done to better prepare us for the presentation?

Most students realized with some discussion that I had not provided the best communication regarding the project. Once students were done with the seminar, we had a whole-class debriefing in which I pointed out that I had intentionally been vague about the project. Since we're focusing on communication this second quarter, I wanted to show students the effect of less-than-optimal communication. "I could have told you, or I could have showed you," I explained. I also pointed out that no students really asked for clarification even though they all admitted they were somewhat confused by the assignment.

Basic life lessons...

Today's Journal Prompt

Listen to the music. What scene do you see? What’s happening in this film? (The music was Faure's "Pavane," Op. 50. You can find it on YouTube easily.)
